Public Speaking - FLC Only

Eligibility

Each chapter may enter 1 member/team who is a member of an active local chapter. Participants must be on record in the FBLA national office as having paid dues by October 2 of the current school year. No competitor may have placed among the top 10 in this event at a previous National Leadership Conference.

Competitors in this event must be in the complete Georgia FBLA Official Dress. If any team member is not in complete compliance with the Georgia FBLA official dress, each judge will deduct 5 points.

Overview

This competitive event evaluates member presentation skills, professional preparation, and practical application according to official Georgia FBLA guidelines.

Each presentation must be the result of its own independent work. Facts and working data may be secured from any source. The student members, not the advisers, must prepare presentations and speeches. The competitors must answer judges' questions about their presentation (SLC final round only).

The chapter must provide all equipment for the presentation. Internet access will NOT be provided therefore, online presentation services (e.g., Prezi) should not be used. Individuals must perform all aspects of the presentation (e.g., speaking, setup, operating audiovisual equipment). Other representatives of the chapter, including the adviser, may not provide assistance.

Competitors should arrive 30 minutes prior to their scheduled presentation time.
3 minutes will be allowed to setup and remove equipment or presentation items. If the team exceeds their 3-minute setup time, the presentation time will begin immediately.
Presentations must be delivered using one or two personal devices (laptop, tablet, mobile phone, or laptop monitor not to exceed 17" diagonally).
The individual/team has 7 minutes to deliver the presentation. A timekeeper will provide a warning at 6 minutes and call time at 7 minutes.

Additional Presentation Guidelines

FLC Qualifying Presentation: Projectors are not allowed for this round. Power and internet access will not be provided for this round, nor may competitors plug into available outlets. Judges will not ask questions following the presentation.

Judging & Awards

A panel of judges will evaluate the presentations of these finalists and select winners. The presentation score will represent 100% of the final score for each round.

The maximum number of awards for each FLC group will be 5. The top 1 entry from each Fall Leadership Conference group will advance to the State Leadership Conference.

Specific Guidelines

Projects and presentations must directly address the official core competencies and prompt requirements for Public Speaking prompt. All information should reflect the competitor's accomplishments and preparation.

Clearly demonstrate how experiences, qualifications, and skills align with the selected event.
Make direct connections between specific elements and rubric expectations.
Integrate relevant statistics, data, and comprehensive research.
